A certain senatorial candidate in the North demonstrated this recently through his actions. The senator started his campaign very well by championing the cause of the President Goodluck Jonathan in all his campaign outings including on his billboards, posters, handbills and on his campaign vehicles.
That was when he assumed that the persona of the president will sell his own candidature.
The candidate had his giant billboards on strategic parts of the town but most times superimposing the image of the president on his own to make it look like he was campaign for a joint ticket with Jonathan.
 But recently, to the surprise of many, the same senator, probably noticing the trend in his constituency, has asked that the president’s images as much as possible be deleted from any of his campaign objects, leaving only his image and that of the party.
Hence many of his vehicles have been re-sprayed to cover the image of Jonathan while some of the billboards have been redesigned to accommodate only his image.
Some say that was a sharp reaction to the reality on ground but others say that was like playing politics of self-interest.
