The International Youth Day is celebrated annually on 12th August to bring youth issues to the attention of the international community and celebrate the potential of youths as partners in today’s global society.

It is beyond doubt that youths are the backbone of any society. For a society to progress it must harness the full potential of its youth.

There are over 1.8 billion young people in the world today, 90 per cent of whom live in developing countries, where they tend to make up a large proportion of the population.

Therefore, youths are the driving force and have the capacity to change the world to better place that all of us can live comfortably. Sadly, in most countries, the youths are left behind.

Shall we continue this way? The simple answer is No! My fellow youths, we need to bear in our minds that nothing good could be actualised without us taking active role.

We should not confine fighting our battle to social media platform, we need to participate actively in politics. Voting during elections is the least we can do to ensure we choose the right leadership.
