Askira emir: How I survived Boko Haram attack

The delegate with two other emirs were on Friday going to Gombe to attend the funeral of the late Emir of Gombe when they were attacked.
Addressing the delegates at the plenary yesterday, the emir said “as members are aware of, three of us emirs from Borno, myself the emir of Askira, late emir of Gwoza and emir of Uba were on our way to Gombe and our intention was to stop in Biu so we can go with the emir of Biu and the emir of Shani.
“Immediately after leaving Garkida, a border town between Adamawa and Borno states, we were ambushed. As we were going, because we decided that we have not seen ourselves for a very long time, we decided to go in one car and the other cars were following us.
“The three of us were in one jeep and from nowhere, shots started coming, targeted at our car. We were all inside the car, with about 40 of them (Boko Haram) shooting at the same time. Unfortunately because of the fire power, the car had to go off.
“The driver couldn’t start it and looking at the situation, the only option for us was to bolt out. I bolted out; they were shooting; only God, it was a miracle. I bolted out, all the cars were going back on reverse gear; how I jumped into another car I don’t know; half of my body was outside, half was inside the car. That was how we managed to reverse and escape.”
However, he said the Emir of Gwoza was not that lucky.
