The Nigerian military headquarters has expressed confidence that the collaboration with the United States troops will yield noticeable improvements in the coming weeks, saying some aspects of the military cooperation remain confidential.
This is as the military also denied insinuations on the recruitment of repentant terrorists into its ranks.
Insecurity has continued in the country despite the arrival of U.S. troops in the country on February 15, 2025, to support the military.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday in Abuja, the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Micheal Onoja disclosed that the U.S. assistance includes intelligence sharing and operational training aimed at enhancing the armed forces’ capacity to tackle emerging threats.
According to him, some aspects of the cooperation remain confidential due to the sensitivity of ongoing military operations.
He noted that although the impact of the support may not be immediate, assuring that the assistance would soon translate into tangible outcomes on the ground.
“All we can say is that these things take time. You know there is a gestation period when we are conducting military operations. Just rest assured that they are giving us adequate intelligence,” he said.
The military also assured Nigerians of improved security during the Easter celebrations, noting that festive periods often come with increased security risks.
Similarly, the coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier General Yusuf Alli, clarified that the military is not recruiting de-radicalised terrorists and denied rumours that they work as informants to Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists.
