Codub Consulting UK in conjunction with the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and its strategic partner, Total Facilities Management Limited concluded its two-day Asset and Waste Management Summit in Abuja recently with a call for waste recycling.
The two-day meeting bore the theme “Asset Life Cycle: From Asset Acquisition to Rethinking Waste as a Resource”.
Welcoming guests, the Principal Consultant of Codub Consulting, Mr. Chidi Umeano said, “It’s hoped that asset and waste management of which maintenance is one of the components, is seen by all stakeholders as a critical success factor for long-term employment, better security and the achievement of the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.”
Mr. Simon Shercliff OBE, British Deputy High Commissioner, Abuja who declared the summit open spoke about the need to manage assets properly as well as reduce waste especially in the current economic climate.
He emphasised that the need to manage and maintain what Nigeria currently has as opposed to purchasing or building new things.
Dr Waleed Montasser, UK-based Director of Integrated Resource Efficiency & Environmental Management for Sustainability (IREEMS) Ltd talked on “The Waste Management Industry and Job Creation” emphasizing harnessing wealth and creating jobs for teeming youths from waste.
