Umoh, while fielding questions from newsmen at a press conference in Uyo said Nigerians should not have expected much from the athletes because they did not start from the grassroot.

‘’We have not started from the roots. A lot of the athletes are from the academics. Let us go back to the grassroot, so we can have secondary school sports back and tapped from there’’ he said.

He wondered why the ministry of sport has ignored such calls from sport men and women for the resuscitation of school sports, saying unless the ministry heeds such calls, the country’s dream to soar in international and national sporting events would continue to be a mirage.

The former Calabar Rovers player regretted that participation in sports is no longer for the love of it but for financial reward, adding ‘’ in those it was not like that’’

According to him players now compete for financial reward but in his days it was for the love of the game and for the country.
