The association in a petition addressed to the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, a copy which was made available to Daily Trust noted that, “there is no cadre/scheme of service for environmental engineers in the public service of Nigeria.”
The petitioners went further to state that, “appointment and promotion in the public service is strictly based on the approved scheme of service for a particular cadre but the advertised position does not exist in the service.”
The petition signed by Arc. Emmanuel Ating, national president of the association said that the advertised position was a breach of the 1999 constitution and the Public Services Rules 2008 edition.
“The National Council on Establishment at its 31st meeting held in Asaba approved the environment management officers’ cadre as the scheme of service for environmental managers in Nigeria,” he added.
He urged the Civil Service Commission to jettison the advert for environmental engineers and instead recruit people for the post of environmental managers.

“The Ministry of Environment officials who submitted the proposal for the recruitment of environmental engineers instead of environmental managers are obviously focusing on interests other than federal government of Nigeria,” the president added.
