The extravaganza has been fixed for October 16th – 19th and 23rd – 26th respectively, at the Fifth Chukker Polo and Country club, Kaduna. Polo Captain Babangida Hassan Usman Katsina disclosed this while also announcing that the MTN Cup will be introduced as a new handicap brand which will now raise to three the number of trophies to be contested.
According to Hassan, the MTN Cup will be played between 16th and 19th October, while General Hassan Cup and the Patrons Cup will be decided between 23rd and 26th October. He also commended the enthusiasm of patrons, sponsors and players in maintaining the momentum and tradition of the tournament since its debut in 2008 and promised that Fifth Chukker would yet again deliver the best polo at Nigeria’s premier polo centre.
On the new partnership with MTN Communications, he added: “MTN have been doing so much for Nigerian polo since 2001 and we are very delighted to have them on board as the Main sponsors of the African Patrons Polo Tournament.” MTN’s Events and Sponsorship Manager, Dola Bamgboye assures that ”polo enthusiasts all over the Kaduna and Northern Regional area, majority of whom are our subscribers are excited about this partnership.  We listen to our customers and we ensure that we give them the best service tailored to meet their lifestyle and we will continue making them happy through polo and sports in general.”
Although team entry is still open, old favourites are expected to be back to a tournament which has regularly attracted all the best known patrons in Nigerian polo, among them, Sayyu Dantata, Kashim Bukar, Mustapha Fasinro, Damian Duncan, Bode Makanjuola, Senator Hadi Sirika, Hon. Aliu Wadada, Tajudeen Danatata, Kunle Tinubu, Mustapha Sherrif, Sani Umar, Yerima Yusuf, Babaduna Kaloma Ali, Lawal Mangal, Dawule Baba, Sheriff Shagaya, Muhammad Babangida and Hon. Dimeji Bankole.
