The Supervising minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, has described the planned strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) to draw Federal Government’s attention to the lingering strike of polytechnic lecturers  as a mere propaganda that is not in the interest of  Polytechnic students.

 The Special Assistant to the minister on Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, said  over 90% of the demands of the polytechnic lecturers have been met, adding that the only outstanding issue is that of salary arreas which the Federal Government is offering to pay in two instalments.

 He added that minister of Labour and Productivity, Emeka Worgu, had briefed the minister of education about the next step to take after a meeting with the striking polytechnic lecturers.

 But the President Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, (ASUP), Chibuzor Asomugha, described the claim by the supervising minister of education that  about 90% of the lecturers’ demands had been met as a “delibrate denial of reality” and mixing up of facts.

 In a telephone interview, the ASUP president said the mass protest he announced earlier in the day is open to all that want to join to draw the Federal Governmnet’s attention to the lingering  ASUP strike.

 He, however, said the take off point and time of the protest will be announced close to the begining of the protest for security reasons.
