Obafunwa had threatened to withdraw ASUU LASU chairperson, Dr. Adekunle Idris’s PhD certificate over a lingering face off.
The union’s coordinator in a statement made available to Daily Trust in Abuja wondered why a vice chancellor will threaten to withdraw the PhD of a colleague over an avoidable crisis which he (vice-chancellor) was the architect of.
“The attempt by VC to unwittingly withdraw the PhD certificate of ASUU LASU chairperson clearly portrays his mundane sentimental posture in administering the university and his strong animosity for a degree which he does not know how difficult it is to obtain,” Nasiru said.
The coordinator said ASUU viewed the lingering crisis in the university which “the vice chancellor might have caused through engaging in promotion procedures in order to favour his cronies in complete disregard for academic culture and standards, as deliberate attempt to sabotage the hard earned credit the Visitor of the University, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, has toiled to achieve and would want to leave as a legacy in the university.”
He accused the VC of leading the university with policies that were capable of instigating industrial disharmony at the university.
Nasiru called on the visitor of the university to intervene by setting up a visitation panel to assess and advise him on the true situation in order to end the face-off.
“The visitor’s failure to do so will only plunge the university into further crisis and instability. It is, however, the belief of ASUU that the visitor will heed this advice to salvage the unfortunate and deteriorating situation in LASU.”
