In a statement jointly issued by ASUU’s South-south zonal leaders, the union canvassed for adequate funding of the university.
The statement was signed by Dr. Nsing Ogar (Zonal Coordinator); Dr Stephen Ochang (chairman, ASUU CRUTECH); Dr. Aniekan Brown (chairman, ASUU UNIYO); Dr. Tony Eyang (chairman, ASUU UNICAL) and Arch. Ochi Ejimofor (Chairman, ASUU ABSU).
The chairman of CRUTECH branch of ASUU, Dr. Stephen Ochang, said in Calabar that the state government has not paid the outstanding salaries of CRUTECH’s staff, a situation that forced ASUU to direct its members to commence strike.
“We demand for the immediate payment of arrears of the four months salaries, December, 2014 to March, 2015. Academic activities will not resume in the university until the outstanding salaries are paid.”
The union has also demanded for the increase of monthly subvention to the university from N169m to N250m, berating the Cross River State Government for the crisis plaguing the institution.
The varsity’s workers have been on strike since November 2014 over alleged neglect of the institution by the government.
