I want to use this forum to plead with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government to consider the plight of students in public universities. Many students are now idling away, with some engaging in all sorts of crime. Aside from that, many will have to spend more time in school and that is not easy for the parents who were before now barely managing to pay the fees.
In some cases, the students are the ones who engage in menial jobs to train themselves, so these extra years occasioned by the strike are not easy for them.

The federal government and ASUU should return to the negotiation table and end this problem which has gone on for too long. Both parties must be ready for some compromise for the sake of the students and future of Nigeria.
