Briefing newsmen on the deteriorating state of education in the country on Tuesday in Abuja, Mbadiwe said if the logjam, which has forced the universities closed since July, is not tackled head-on “could produce the kerosene effect which can paralyze the entire labour force and shut down government.”
Other labour unions including the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) have warned of impending sympathy strike over the perceived failure by the government to implement the agreement reached with ASUU in 2009.
The legislature, who represents Ideato North and Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State and currently the deputy chairman House committee on National Safety and Security, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to set up a crack team that could resolve the issues within three weeks, adding that any party not satisfied after this should go to the Industrial Arbitration Court in accordance with the rule of law.
