Speaking recently during a press briefing organized by the Unity Schools Old Students Association (USOSA) in Abuja, he said the more students remained idle at home the easier they might be forced into activities harmful to them and society.
He insisted that “ASUU strike must come to a final end”, as it was not bringing a good image to the nation and the education sector.
But USOSA President-General, Kabiru Nuhu Koko, told Daily Trust that federal government should “listen to them [lecturers union] and meet them halfway” because they had genuine reason for their industrial action.
Koko said: “Even if the government cannot give them everything they ask for, they should give them something enough for them to go back to the classroom, because it is not good for our tertiary institutions to always go on strike.”
He said the association was concerned about closure of universities, but appealed to both the union and government not to be too hard on one another but come together to resolve the issue.
The association is expected to convene a day long dialogue on education and national security in late October, with Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole in attendance.
