The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University of Jos (Unijos), Prof Ishaku Tanko, yesterday, directed the students of the institution to return home.

Prof Tanko gave the directive following the declaration of a one-month warning strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar of the university, Abdullahi Abdullahi, the VC approved the suspension of academic activities until further notice, saying the decision was taken following an emergency meeting of the senate of the institution.

The statement reads in part: “In the light of the fact that there would be no lectures or similar activities taking place during the period of the warning strike, the management agreed that in the best interest of students, they should be allowed to return home until academic activities resume.

“Students of the university are hereby advised to take note and strictly act accordingly please.”
