He said that the resolution of the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU to call off the strike now came following series of interventions by people who have the interest of Nigerian students at heart.

The ASUU president expressed hope that the gesture demonstrated will accelerate the process of returning the Nigerian university system to normal. He called on government, to as a matter of urgency, conclude agreement with the unions in the university system so that universities can return to proper functioning.

He expressed gratitude for the effort of Nigerian students, NLC and other labour movements, including the Trade Union Congress, Civil Society Organizations for their support in the struggle to reposition Nigerian universities. Awuzie expressed optimism that government will not renege on the latest peace initiative expected to be sealed in the next one week.
