The former Vice President yesterday directed all his supporters and loyalists in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties or associations including the PDM to register with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Atiku, after declaring for the APC early this month had planned to retain the PDM structure as it is so that the party could test its popularity as well as provide an alternative platform in areas where it is perceived that the PDP and APC would have problems.
But a statement personally signed by the former Vice President,  advised all his supporters to move to a common platform to accelerate the much-needed change in Nigeria’s democratic direction.
He said the imperative of change demands a united front and voice stressing that instead of being on the fence, “all his supporters should not hesitate to register with APC in order to be part of the historic movement towards revitalizing our democracy by making it more results-oriented.”
 The former Vice President said for his supporters to be part of the much-needed change, they must register massively saying participation is the vehicle to influencing change in every society.
Atiku’s defection to APC has created anxiety within PDM which registered as a political party in August, last year.
Investigations by our reporter revealed that many active members of the party have withdrawn their membership of the party with the fear that Atiku’s defection may affect the party negatively in 2015.
A PDM source who spoke with our reporter on condition of anonymity said when Atiku was consulting his associates and supporters in the six-geopolitical zones in the country over his planned defection recently, they thought he would decamp to the PDM but later when he announced his defection to the APC, they became reluctant to continue in the party.
“I was just waiting for the big fish to take his decision. Now that we know very well that he is carrying the membership card of another party other than our party, I have decided that I will also leave but for now, you are the first person to know about my intention,” he said.
