Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has called for a state of emergency to halt the escalating insecurity across the country.
Atiku, who was reacting to the latest abduction of students in Niger State, wondered how many people would be affected before the government would act decisively.
On Friday, students and staff of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State were abducted, with the exact number yet to be confirmed.
The incident comes just days after a similar attack in Maga, Kebbi State, where 25 students were kidnapped, heightening concerns over the deteriorating security situation in educational institutions across the region.

Atiku, in a post on his social media platforms, asked, “This is truly heartbreaking. How many more lives must be shattered before decisive action is taken?”
He also charged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront the menace with the urgency it deserves.
“It is not too late for the government to finally declare a state of emergency on insecurity and confront this menace with the urgency it deserves,” he wrote.
