Ordinarily, I could not have chip in anything concerning the exit of the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, from his party the APC as I’m not a politician and does not belong to any of the political parties. More so, I’m not his spokesperson.
But, because of the response of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, of Kaduna State in which I have some reservations over what the Governor El-Rufai, said. First and foremost, I stand to be contradicted, that Governor El-Rufai, is Atiku’s boy based on his confession about ten years ago in Ganye town, while speaking at a reception organized when the Gangwari Ganye conferred the prestigious title of Sardauna on Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
On that day, Governor El-Rufai, then Director-General of Bureau for Public Enterprise told the whole world, that Atiku Abubakar, was his mentor and that he was instrumental for his appointment as the Director-General of the Bureau by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Secondly, based on certain indices, I stand to be corrected, that the overwhelming support, that the President Muhammadu Buhari, enjoyed previously is no longer there like in 2015 and there are a lot of permutations like what Asiwaju Bala Ahmed Tinubu say, that there is no any automatic ticket for President Buhari.
Governor El-Rufai’s assertion, that he is an Buhari apologist is merely to use the popularity of the President Buhari, in his own thinking to have a second term which from the look of all indices may not be possible in Kaduna State due to his anti-people policies.
In fact, Governor El-Rufai is at the front burner in luring the President Buhari, in supporting some of his anti-people policies like his recent threat of sacking about more than twenty thousand teachers in Kaduna State.
What the Governor El-Rufai, should realise is the beauty of democracy, that one is at liberty to belong to any political party of his choice as well as to defect from one party to another just like what the Governor El-Rufai, did by leaving the Peoples Democratic Party where he was even appointed as the Minister of the Federal Capital.
In fact, as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, the level of destructions and anti-people policies he initiated endeared him to his boss then, the former President Obasanjo.
But what he has done later to the President Obasanjo, was to lambast him and call him unprintable names in his book” The Accidental Civil Servant”.
The likes of Governor El-Rufai, cannot make it in politics without the Buhari’s “SAK”. But this time around, the people would not be disposed to such, even if the President asks them to do so.
Governor El-Rufai is brain behind the problem of Nigeria Ports Authority and Intels Logistics taking into cognizance, that the Managing Director of Nigeria Ports Authority was his protege and she is doing his bidding. He perceived Atiku Abubakar as stumbling block to his ambition if President Buhari is not going for second term.
Governor El-Rufai was the same person, that said President Buhari, then the presidential candidate of Congress for Progressives Change would never become President when he was in the Peoples Democratic Party and now, he is at the fore front protecting the same person – that is a politician for you.
Therefore, the exit of Atiku Abubakar should not give him sleepless night.
He should stop attacking the former Vice-President as politics is surely a game of numbers, whoever gets the highest number of votes is the winner.
Even if they are not on the same page now, it should not be a matter of life and death that the Governor El-Rufai, can be using every fora to lunch attack on Atiku Abubakar over his leaving the All Progressives Congress.
