The Turakin Adamawa is a political colossus whose foray into politics has always shaped the direction of politics in today’s Nigeria. He gave the marching orders to his political battalion to stop the Third Term designs of his boss and former President Obasanjo.
Today, that infamous agenda is now history. At first, his capability to crush that agenda was doubtful. But no longer.
He confounded his critics again, when he told the BBC in an interview that that President Jonathan’s continuity in office would collapse like a pack of cards and it crumbled before our very eyes. Whoever doubted his promise has by now been shocked.
Turaki’s politics is unique in every sense of the word because he is by no means a novice. His foray into politics dates back to his association with late General Shehu Musa Yaradua – the man who won the 1992 Presidential polls by a landslide. The death of the colossus only made the Turaki more determined to take the place of his mentor and associate. No one ever thought someone like ex-president Obasanjo would have cause to kneel and beg the Turaki for any political goodwill. This singular incident has made Atiku the unbeatable vice president at whose beck and call many governors were. He was always there to call the shots and no governor of that era had the audacity to disagree with the Turakin Adamawa.
Today, in the political equation of the nation he occupies a position of unquestioned political pre-eminence. Few would not dof their hats for him.
All hail the man who has for long had a good grasp of Nigerian politics and remains the undisputable political rallying point. By and large, he is instrumental to the emergence of a new democratic Nigeria, with General Muhammad Buhari on the saddle.
