The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has described the killings in Zamfara State as one too many.

“The recent killings in Magami village in Faru District of Maradun LGA of Zamfara is one too many. The people of Zamfara and indeed all peoples of Nigeria deserve to live in peace and safety”, he said.
It’s a threat to our democracy- Saraki
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in a tweet, said the recent killings in Zamfara was a threat to the nation’s democracy particularly, as the nation moved towards the general elections.
Saraki called for overhaul of the security architecture in order to bring it to a state where it can effectively tackle emerging threats and challenges.
We should look at the Zamfara killings as a major threat to our democracy — particularly as we move towards the general elections in the next 50 days. We should not allow criminal elements to take over parts of our country.

The situation in Zamfara State is an example of why we need to overhaul our security architecture in order to bring it to a state where it can effectively tackle emerging threats and challenges.
— Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) December 27, 2018
There is need for proper profiling of the situation in Zamfara so that we can know whether it is cattle rustling; vicious armed robbery on a large scale; a religious/ethnic crisis; or, an invasion by foreign forces.
— Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) December 27, 2018
Our security agencies must immediately come out with a proper understanding of the situation, the right strategy and deployment of the necessary troops to tackle the menace.
— Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) December 27, 2018
Within the next few days, we must send strong signals to the criminals in Zamfara State that the Nigeria will no longer tolerate the on-going bloodletting.
— Bukola Saraki (@bukolasaraki) December 27, 2018
Mr. President has to take full & direct control. Mr. President must widen the consultation within the armed forces on the search for solutions to the Zamfara killings. He must go beyond the first line military top brass. We need to get ideas from more sources than we presently do

Why Northern leaders are mute – Shehu Sani
Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna central senatorial district also, in a tweet, stated reasons Northern elites were silent over the cases of killings and kidnappings in the region.
The senator said the leaders were mute because of fear and indifference.
“Northern political elites are silent on the frequent killings and kidnappings in the north out of any of these three reasons; fear: not to be seen opposing the Government; belief that the President is doing his best; indifference because it’s the poor that are dying”, he said.

Because of the frequency of killings, the FG and states have run out of condemnations and sending condolences to the families of the victims, the press too no more treats it as a cover story.”
