It is unfortunate that even under civilian rule Nigeria’s military is excessive in handling civil affairs. Nigeria’s military with its high handedness, has never relented in using force to achieve its objectives. Recently in Zaria, innocent civilians were shot and killed while on a peaceful demonstration, the same kind of thing the military did in Baga, ZakiBiam etc.
As they say, ‘Justice delayed is justice denied,’but the civilian leadership because of corruption and incompetence, has never brought any errant military or para-military officer to justice over their extra judicial acts. This is one of things that is fuelling insurgency in the country.
The National Union of Journalists, Radio and Television Workers Union should protest the attempted kidnapping of freedom of speech and freedom of information by the Nigerian military by boycotting all its activities till they issue an apology and assurance that such will never happen again. If not, this will still happen again as has once happened to other media houses in the past.
