With due respect, I wish to bring to your attention the situation with the huge listeners of the Bauchi Radio Corporation (BRC), Azare sub-station in Katagum LGA. 

This community radio, which has been playing the prominent role of disseminating information to the teeming listeners has been off the air for more than two months due to malfunctioning transmitter. 

Sir, it is imperative to note that community radio plays a key positive role in society and it comes at a very low cost to the listener. 

This community radio station has over the years been suffering a serious setback of weak transmitters, lack of perimeter fencing and outdated equipment.  

It also suffers from shortage of staff; compelling the management to resort to engaging casual staff to run the station. It is said that the last time BRC employed a worker was in 2009. 

Needless, Your Excellency, to stress the need to digitalise its operation and other stations so as to compete favourably with others and meet the current technological trend. 

Radio stations need more attention now than ever before because they play a prominent role in curtaling and arresting the numerous vices afflicting the society through their programmings on various issues such as drug abuse, agriculture, health and business. 

With the Holy month of Ramadan just some few months away, the teeming listeners of the station will be happy to see it back on air to continue to guide them spiritually. 

Dear governor, I wish to remind you that community radio stations are only true democratic media organs reaching out to the poor and rich, educated and uneducated, children and adults, remote regions and urban areas as well as men and women. The remote communities of rural areas are now in dire need of radio stations as we move towards 2023 and as we grapple with insecurity. 

Sir, being a considerate governor, we appeal to you to put our BRC FM Azare radio station back on air and we are confident that our tears will definitely be wiped off . I also appeal to Your Excellency to consider speedy migration from analogue to digital broadcasting. It will also be appreciated if those diligent and self-sacrificing casual staff of our community radio station are absorbed into the state’s civil service.
