On behalf of the 2016 prospective Bar 2 Nigerian Law School students from Zamfara State, I want to use this medium to draw the attention of Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and other relevant stakeholders in the running of the affairs of our dear state to a issue vital to the progress and human development of any society which we have tried all formal means via dispatching letters that we never get any response from and even trying to access constituency offices which don’t exist physically.
In nearly all states of the federation students schooling in tertiary institutions are paid stipends to motivate them or even sponsored to go abroad to study, which is a very good gesture from state governments, Zamfara State has even gone extra miles in supporting students by sponsoring them to private universities in other states and even secondary school outside the state. (At least the state is promoting SDG 4).
But surprisingly, despite these good gestures, since 2011, law graduates from Zamfara State intending to go to the Nigerian Law School to become legal practitioners have not been sponsored or even supported in any way by the state government or any elected member, to achieve that; this has led many law graduates in the state to teaching and other acts to make ends meets, this is despite hundreds of millions spent quarterly to send students to Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya and even nearby universities in Nigeria to study Public Administration, Mass Communication, education, Islamic Studies and Arabic among others and sponsoring of secondary school students to other secondary schools outside the state including Jigawa.
In the same vein Zamfara state at this stage cannot boast of a reasonable number of legal practitioners. We the prospective Bar 2 Nigerian Law School students from Zamfara State hereby request all concerned to please come to our aid to be able to go to the Nigerian Law School with our mates because admission into 2016 Bar 2 Course in the Nigerian Law School would be out in the coming few weeks and as we are now 60% of Law Graduates of this dear state of ours have not even purchased application forms not to talk of the main Law School fees, feeding (due to the non-cooking policy of the Nigerian Law school) and maintenance which is a nearly impossible task for the average parent but it is possible with your support because I believe that beautification of roundabouts, fuelling of generators to light street lamps and sponsorship of students abroad is no more better or less a priority than our humble request .
And it is a known fact that certain executive members of the state and even legislative members on numerous occasions sponsor youths for hajj, buy gifts of laptops, smart phones, cars, motorcycles, cash gift to youths and even dine with these youths who do nothing but sing their praises on facebook and whatsapp and defend politicians, I believe if politicians can use public funds for such expensive welfare and social activities, then spending and sponsoring 40 students to become lawyers should not be a thing the state government should think twice about. We hope our message gets to the desired recipient(s).
