If you want to make enemies make changes”, the truth of this statement depicts the dicey situation Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i of Kaduna State finds himself.
His concerted effort to rid the state of ugly trends of ghost workers by his coterie of experts have plunged him into sleepless nights and the workers into untold hardship.
Every effort and multiple plans to achieve his aim are thwarted by saboteurs and enemies from within.
At first the problems were omissions, overpayments and now it degenerated to deduction and gross underpayments to those who were screened and acknowledged as live workers not ghost workers.
The issue is not only embarrassing to the government but is making paupers out of the workers. Those who are stacked in the quagmire find alternative either as part timers in petty jobs or resort to corruption if their jobs provide avenues for it.
The governor had to publicly apologize to the teeming unpaid workers for the pitiable condition they were plunged into either because of greed, sabotage and official intemperance.
Apologies alone may not serve, twelve months of reckless abandon with the lives of individuals and families in a government with the mantra of change can probably be very costly in the long run.
All those vested with the political temerity to make Kaduna great again must be seen to be on the same page with the government and the Governor on this.
We do not doubt the noble intention of the government and the Governor that is why we have invested so much trust and confidence in him.
Please, my Governor, save as much the trouble of defending you always. Count on us to make Kaduna State great again.
Pay these workers, especially those under the Emirate Councils, they have suffered enough.
