Ikubese maintains his role as Femi, the unlucky-in-love music promoter, after failing to find happiness with Foye (Maria Okanrende), his long-time crush, in season three. Femi, who has been HIV positive for several years, and having more successes in heart matters, experiences a twist of fate in the new season with the path of true love treading quite narrowly and rough.
Troubled teenager Princess, (Sharon Ezeamaka), is dealing with her pregnancy after discovering that she is HIV positive. The season provokes question on whether her older lover, Solomon will riose up to the occasion of being responsible for his child, or will it be Princess’ cross?
There are new additions expected to be a part of this season including a South Africa family cast, with auditions for additional roles to hold at the three ‘On Tour with MTV Shuga’ events, come March.
‘Shuga’ Season 4 will especially focus on promoting HIV testing, in partnership with the Elton John AIDS Foundation, with a target to encourage 25,000 youths.
The series will fuse sexual and other public health messages with distinct storytelling and relatable characters, while focusing on a range of themes relevant to young Nigerians. These include adolescent girls, stigma, prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV, HIV testing and 6222 (NACA helpline), gender based violence, first sex, and disclosure of HIV status.
