The Kogi State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Ibrahim Sani Mohammed, has called on legal professionals in the country to support the federal and state governments in its fight against corruption.

The Attorney General who was speaking during the 2016 Law Week organized by the Nigerian Bar Association, (NBA), Lokoja branch, noted that the society expects much from members of the bar in tackling the menace of graft, which he said has eaten deep into the nation’s fabric.

“Government will put all necessary machinery in place to tackle all forms of corruption in the state. Just recently, the state government set up commission of inquiry  to look into the financial activities of the past administrations with a view to recovering a lot of money belonging to the public that had been carted away,” he said.

In a paper titled: “Role of Bar in the fight against corruption in Nigeria” by Barrister Jibrin Okutepa, (SAN), he described corruption as a “heavy weight in Nigeria” that had become a way of life affecting development. 

The state chairman of NBA, Barrister Liman Salihu, said the present leadership of the Bar was poised to fight corruption within the legal profession and condemned the recent invasion on some judges’ residences by the DSS operatives.
