The NAA in the state has therefore pressed on the state to auction out unserviceable items including vehicles which have piled up for over four years now.
Alhaji Ibrahim Isah Bashir, state chairman of the auctioneers told Daily Trust, weekend that the association noted that the state last auctioned vehicles in 2010 during the administration of Aliyu Akwe Doma, but observed that the administration of Umaru Tanko Al-Makura is yet to approve of any auction to take place, four years in office.
“Old and unserviceable vehicles have continued to pile up. Other items have also continued to pile up, but the government has not considered auctioning them as has been the practice here and elsewhere,” Bashir said.
He said the association is aware of an earlier attempt by the administration to do the auctioning, but added that “we are aware the governor’s approval did not follow the attempt, after all.”
He appealed to the governor to give the approval needed for the auction to take place, saying it is the best practice where accountability and transparency are principles of government.
He cited Sokoto and Bauchi as good examples, saying the governments in these states recently approved auctioning of old and unused items through the association.
He said engaging the association makes auctioning transparent as it will eliminate fraudulent practices and the feeling of underhand dealings in the disposal of the items.
