Lecturer and author Audee T. Giwa’s last good read is ‘Catch-22’ by Joseph Heller. “I have never met a writer who mastered English language and used it with self-awareness like him,” Giwa says. “You will easily be put off by any man who tells you he has mastered English. But here is a writer who set out to tell you how chaotic the world is and the only tool he has is language. He chose a very difficult topic, which is the world war. He created fictional characters. But the most important thing is his use of language. Anyone who reads it will tell you there’s no book like it. Even the sequel fell short of the former.”

Giwa is a lecturer at Kaduna State University and author of four novels, including ‘Yarinya’ and ‘Marks on the Run’.
