A renewed push for women’s economic empowerment took centre stage in Gusau on Saturday as the AUG Foundation partnered with Kungiyar Tallafin Mata Masu Dubara (MMD) to support local entrepreneurs and strengthen community livelihoods.
The programme, spearheaded by the Foundation’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Malam Abdulhafiz Umar Barau (Dan Isan Gusau / Magayakin Tsafe), provided financial assistance to women engaged in small-scale trading and micro-enterprises. The initiative attracted women leaders, cooperatives, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders from across Zamfara Central.
Organisers said the empowerment exercise is part of a wider strategy aimed at scaling similar interventions across all 14 Local Government Areas and Emirate Councils of Zamfara State in the coming months.
During the event, the Mata Masu Dubara group honoured Malam Abdulhafiz Umar Barau with a Humanitarian Award, applauding his longstanding commitment to uplifting women and youth.
The award citation praised his “continuous display of compassion, commitment, and service to the less privileged,” describing him as a steadfast supporter of women-led businesses and vulnerable households.
Beneficiaries of the scheme expressed gratitude, noting that the support came at a crucial time amid prevailing economic pressures.
One recipient said the assistance would “help many of us rebuild and strengthen our businesses,” while another thanked the Foundation’s CEO for “showing that women matter and that our economic contribution is valued.”
Leader of the Mata Masu Dubara group, Hajiya Suwaiba, commended the collaboration and described the Foundation’s Founder as deserving of the recognition.
“This award reflects his compassion and consistent support to women. His contributions continue to uplift our communities,” she stated.
AUG Foundation Coordinator, Abdul Bala Gusau, reiterated that the intervention forms part of a sustained empowerment agenda.
“This is not an isolated programme. The Founder has directed that the initiative be extended to all 14 LGAs of Zamfara State. We remain committed to providing sustainable support that strengthens communities,” he said.
