Helon Habila, one of Africa’s most renowned contemporary writers read Ishiguro’s ‘The Buried Giant’. “I read it last month,” he says, adding that it’s a magical realist romp through Arthurian England where the author was able to bring that time and its people alive.
“Most of all, he has very sympathetic characters. We experience their vulnerability and their hopes and desires,” Habila offers.
Habila is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at George Mason University, USA. His novels include, ‘Waiting for an Angel’, ‘Measuring Time’, and ‘Oil on Water’. He is the editor of the Granta Book of African Short Story, 2011.
