The Kano State Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Thursday secured the conviction of one Mukhtar Habib Ali at the Kano State High Court.
He was arraigned before Justice Zuwaira Yusuf on a three-count charges.
The prosecution said the suspect fraudulently collected the sum of N2,800,000 for the purchase of a Toyota Corolla car since 2018 from one Nafiu Armi’yau Muhammed but instead diverted the money to his personal use.
The accused pleaded guilty to the three charges.
In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, B.M Buhari, asked the court to convict him accordingly.
But his counsel, Ahmed Yusuf Adejumoh, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as the accused was remorseful and did not waste the time of the court.
Justice Yusuf sentenced the defendant to six months imprisonment with an option to pay a fine of N50,000 on count one.
On count two, the convict was sentenced to three months imprisonment with an option of N20,000 fine, while on count three, he was sentenced to four months imprisonment with an option of N30,000 fine.
