Aviation workers set to ground flight operations over labour strike

Aviation workers have vowed to ground the nation’s aviation sector in compliance with the industrial action to be embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The unions including the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) and Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP) have issued notice of strike to all their members.

NUATE directed all aviation workers to withdraw their services and join other Nigerians and stakeholders to proceed on the nationwide strike scheduled for  November 6, 2018.

National President of NUATE, Comrade Ben Nnabue in a statement stressed that the union would join NLC and other partners in the organized labour to embark on a Nationwide strike “due to the inability of the Federal Government to agree on the New National Minimum Wage”.

“All flights operating in/out of Nigeria Airports shall be affected by this industrial action. We appeal to your good sense and understanding in this regard”, he said.

NUATE President noted that “injustice anywhere was a threat to justice everywhere”.

It was learnt that all Chief Executives of aviation agencies have been notified of the intention to embark on the impending strike via letters.

The union also informed stakeholders of the withdrawal of services of its members from all Airports in the country.
