Awoniyi on target as Nottingham Forest beat Tottenham to boost survival hopes

Taiwo Awoniyi was on the scoresheet as Nottingham Forest cruised to a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday, easing their relegation concerns.

Forest delivered a clinical performance in London, with Igor Jesus and Morgan Gibbs-White getting on the scoresheet before Awoniyi added a late third.

Jesus opened the scoring with a header on the stroke of half-time, while Gibbs-White doubled the lead in the 62nd minute after a costly error by Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Awoniyi, who came on as a substitute in the 71st minute, sealed the win late on, calmly finishing from Nico Williams’ cross.

The goal marked Awoniyi’s second of an injury-disrupted season and secured a first win for Forest under manager Vítor Pereira, who took charge in February.

The victory lifts Nottingham Forest to 16th place on the league table, moving them further clear of the relegation zone, while Tottenham drop to 17th, just one point above the bottom three with seven matches remaining.
