The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode, next in line to produce the Awujale of Ijebuland, Ogun State, following the demise of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, yesterday officially began the selection process to fill the vacant stool.
Daily Trust reports that this development comes about 40 days after the death of the highly revered monarch who ruled for more than 65 years.
In a statement issued on Sunday to journalists, the family’s secretary, Prince Adeleke Adeyemi, cautioned the public against paying attention to a purported list of candidates currently circulating on social media, describing it as a distraction.
He noted that the list did not originate from the family and was the handiwork of unscrupulous actors attempting to cause confusion and interfere with a sacred, time-honoured process.

“This is an important public announcement to all Ijebus at home and in the diaspora that the selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland has officially begun. Princes from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House (Agunsebi Quarters) have started submitting their letters of interest in line with tradition.
“We wish to clearly and firmly disclaim the list of candidates being circulated on social media. It is unofficial, unauthenticated, and completely false. It did not originate from the House Secretariat and bears no signature from our Olori-Ebi, Otunba Adedokun Ajidagba, or from me as Secretary,” he said.
The family reassured the public that the process would follow due consultation, traditional rites, and established customs before a candidate is formally presented to the Ijebu kingmakers.
