Ayra Starr has criticised the Headies Awards for belittling the Best Female Artiste category. Unlike the Best Male Artiste Award and other honours, the Headies award organisers did not announce Ayra Starr as the Best Female Artiste of the Year on stage.
The artist took to social media and blogs to criticise them for berating female artistes. Ayra used Tiwa Savage and Tems as instances of how female singers work exceedingly hard in the industry just to be overlooked.
She stated that they do not deserve such disregard and that she would never be grateful for winning a category that was not judged appropriate to be declared on stage.
She tweeted; “I will never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t even deemed fit to be announced on stage! Best Female Artiste na beans? We work hard, every single one of us! I’ve seen Tiwa record 4 hit songs in the same night. Tems breaths and lives for music, we didn’t deserve such nonchalance! Nigeria, you didn’t raise me to settle for less”.
