The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has praised Mr Azu Ishiekwene, the Editor-in-Chief of Leadership Media Group for his contribution to the media industry through his book, titled “Writing for Media and Monetising It”.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the formal presentation of the book, the minister described it as a crucial resource that bridges the gap between media practice and entrepreneurship.
“He (Azu) has now done us the huge favour of distilling his great skill, talents and experience into 280 pages of valuable and monetisable advice. I am glad about the enthusiastic reception that the book is getting from a wide range of quarters,” Idris said.
The minister also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a safe environment for journalists, emphasising that a free press is vital for a thriving democracy.

He urged media practitioners to balance their freedom with a sense of duty, ethics and patriotism.
He stressed that information disseminated must be accurate, balanced and free from sensationalism to maintain public trust and societal stability.
Mrs Zainab Nda-Isaiah, Chairman of LEADERSHIP Media Group, highlighted the struggles faced by journalists, writers and columnists worldwide, noting that many still live in poverty despite their significant contributions to shaping public opinion and driving societal change. Mr Azu Ishiekwene emphasised the importance of creating valuable content that resonates with audiences.
He stressed that monetisation follows the direction of value and urged younger generations to focus on studying and reading valuable content as pathways to creativity.
Mallam Ahmed Shekarau, Group Chief Executive Officer and Editor-in-Chief (print) of Media Trust Group (MTG) encouraged journalists to think innovatively and explore new revenue streams for media practice.
He pointed out the shift of financial resources from mainstream media to the entertainment industry and urged journalists to transition into entrepreneurial roles.
