National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Hakeem Baba-Ahmed has descried recent attempts by a group to create factions within the party.

Baba-Ahmed was reacting to a group known as  the PRP-Vanguard Collective, which held a press conference yesterday and declared that it is rejecting the outcome of the national convention of the party which produced the current leadership of the party.

The group led by Comrade Abdulmajid Yakubu Daudu,described the last national convention of the party as a “sham” and accused a certain a rival group of attempting to hijack the party for elite interests ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group faulted the emergence of Baba-Ahmed as national chairman by what it called the “Falalu faction,” insisting that the exercise contravened the party’s constitution and ideological foundation.

While reacting, the PRP chairman said as far as the convention that produced his leadership concerned, it was faultless.

“It was flawless. We are lucky that all the statutory steps taken to verify the authenticity of the current leadership of the election is here. We know there is some element of mischief behind this, but we are thinking that the people who are doing this have good intentions, and we want to sit with them and talk with them.

On the allegations that he is not a member of the PRP, Baba-Ahmed said he joined the PRP more than 10 years ago and was the person who conducted the primary elections that produced the last presidential candidate of the PRP in Kano.

On whether there was a crisis within the party, the national chairman recalled there was a case between PRP and the former chairman, PRP and 12 others but said the case was determined in the former chairman’s favour on the 31st of august 2022.

“This particular press conference we don’t know the particular person but if anybody knows him, I I wish they can tell him to get in touch with me,” he added.
