Lola Shoneyin’s thrilling novel, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives will burst onto stage at London’s Arcola Theatre on February 14.

The highly entertaining stage adaptation by Caine Prize winner Rotimi Babatunde is directed by Femi Elufowoju and premiered to great acclaim at the 2014 Ake Arts and Book Festival in Abeokuta featuring Nollywood stars like Joke Silva and Adesua Etomi.

The play centres around Baba Segi, who has three wives, seven children, and a mansion filled with riches. But now he has his eyes on Bolanle, a young university graduate wise to life’s misfortunes. When Bolanle responds to Baba Segi’s advances, she unwittingly uncovers a secret which threatens to rock his patriarchal household to the core.

It has been described by the theatre as “a scandalous, engrossing tale of sexual politics and family strife in modern-day Nigeria.”
