Speaking to Trustsports yesterday the candidate said if properly re-branded, the National League will become an irresistible product as he stressed that the league even in its present state is a marketable product.

He said he had already developed a blue-print which if allowed to implement will impact positively on the league which he said had been starved of the attention it deserves.

According to him, lack of sponsorship has been the bane of the league and if elected, one of the first things he would do is to source for credible sponsors.

Kalli explained that over dependence on the Nigerian Football Federation for funding has contributed to the problems of the league because owing to its financial position, the federation too lacks the capacity to provide all that is needed by the league.

He therefore said he would give priority attention to sponsorship as he said with the support of other board members, he would be able to attract the desired sponsorship.

“I have drawn a plan for the National League. I have come to the conclusion that what the league needs urgently is a title sponsor and other auxiliary sponsors who would bring in money for the smooth running of the league.

The Nigerian Football Federation has done its best to keep the league going but it is not easy. Running the league is capital expensive so the federation needs to be given a helping hand. This can be done only when the National League is truly independent in terms of funding”.

He said it is going to be a keenly contested battle but if service to the nation, experience and sincerity of purpose are taken into consideration, he would not have any problem winning the election.

“I have paid my dues. I have played for my country and spent so many years administering this game”, said the ex-captain of El-Kanemi Warriors of Maidugari.

Others gunning for the chairmanship position of the NL with him are former Abia State Commissioner of Sports, Chief Emeka Inyama, Stephen Gyebgon, and Emmanuel Zira.

The election has been slated for January 29 in Abuja.
