The former Ajax of Holland star told Feverpitch that getting the job is a dream come true for the former Mali and Togo coach and he would like to make judicious use of the opportunity to bring the Eagles back to winning ways.

Babangida however said Keshi should be ready to base his selection of players on merit as he said if he allows other considerations to influence his choice of players, he would surely fail in his present assignment.

“Keshi is a good coach. He is the right man for the job. I say this because he has got the necessary credentials to build a new Super Eagles.

“But for him to succeed, he must be ready to base his selection of players on nothing other than merit. Nigeria is blessed with good players and the right materials must be used at all times”.

Babangida also said in as much as he has backed Siasia to succeed with the Eagles, he would not hesitate to condemn him, if he is found wanting in the discharge of his responsibility.

The former international called on Nigerians to give support to the coach and his players as he said without such support it would be hard for the team to succeed.

“I am in support of Keshi but I won’t shy away from criticizing him, if he fails to do the right things. We all must support him and his players because in such assignment, support which can come in form of prayers is necessary”, he stated.
