Residents reported to the police that a little girl was seen carrying the baby and when asked about the mother of the baby, she quickly fled into a nearby compound. The police mobilised their men and stormed the area only to realise that the lady had vacated the compound.

The police sought the whereabouts of the lady and the baby but the occupants of the compound said they knew nothing about the woman. They told the police the compound was a sort of inn and brothel where people – especially women – could rent a room, depending on how long they want to stay.

As a result of the tip-off to the police, three people were arrested from the said compound in Calabar but had to be released after investigations revealed they knew nothing about the suspected kidnapper.

In Abuja, the parents of baby Mathew think otherwise as they seem to believe that the police have relaxed in their efforts to recover their baby. “The police seem to have relented in their efforts even as the mobile network has assisted extensively, yet they still have nothing for us,” said Mr. Mike Idoko, father of the stolen baby.

But the investigating police officer, Mr. Moses Attah says: “The mobile network just released the information we need some days ago and we are working with all we can lay our hands on. It is also true that we went to Calabar when we got information that the suspect was sighted there but unfortunately, she escaped before we could get there.”

The police say they will not relent in their efforts to apprehend the kidnapper as they have all their men on alert and will ensure that the baby is returned to the parents.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Cecilia Idoko has not relented in her faith that her son will soon be re-united with her and is still pleading with Blessing Nnena Udeze, the suspected abductor, to bring her baby back.

It would be recalled that five month old baby Mathew was abducted from his aunt by a friend she made some months before in April while in school in Karmo.
