A Non-Governmental Organisation, Back2SchoolTransformation, has distributed school items to pupils in an underserved community of Abuja,

The organisation also paid the school fees of several children, ensuring they were enrolled and able to continue their education.

The beneficiaries drawn from LEA Primary School and Junior Secondary School, both in Tungan-Maje, Abuja, were given bags, notebooks, storybooks, pens, and pencils.

Ms Ibezim Adaeze Cheryl, founder of Back2schoolTransformation, said the gesture was meant to give succour to parents of the beneficiaries in the face of the nation’s biting economic hardship.

“The schools were selected based on careful community research and observation.

Tungan-Maje is one of the many underserved communities in Abuja where a growing number of children face challenges in accessing quality education due to financial hardship.

“These schools were identified as having a high number of vulnerable children in need of basic school supplies and support,” Cheryl said.

During the educational outreach to the schools, the founder represented by Ms Ibe Saleemah Chiamaka, welcomed parents and guardians of the selected students.

She briefed them on the mission and long-term commitment of the organization to their children’s educational growth, reassured them of the organization’s sincere intentions and shared the joy of connecting with the children and the importance of community involvement in education.

She informed the parents about upcoming interviews that would be conducted to better understand each child’s background and needs.

“While this marks our first direct school-based outreach, Back2schoolTransformation has consistently shown commitment to educational empowerment through past initiatives. We have organized multiple end-of-year parties and community gatherings for children,” the founder explained.

Cheryl further explained that her passion for child welfare, education, and social development is the driving force behind the organization’s efforts.

“The organisation’s mission is to bridge the gap in access to quality education for underprivileged children by providing learning materials, mentorship, and community-driven support, while we envisioned a future where every child, regardless of background, has access to quality education, the tools to thrive academically, and the hope of a better tomorrow,” she said.

She, however, called on governments at all levels to take more deliberate and sustained actions to address the growing number of out-of-school children.
