No fewer than nine people have been abducted and one other killed after armed bandits invaded Adanla suburb in Igbaja in Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State.

It was gathered that the attack occurred around 8pm on December 26, 2025, as residents were observing the yuletide celebrations.

Witnesses said the bandits stormed the community in their large numbers, moving from house to house.

Although there was no initial gunfire, residents said the attackers began shooting after encountering resistance.

Hunters and vigilante groups were immediately mobilised while security agencies were alerted.

A community leader, who requested anonymity, said the Brigade Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade was contacted and directed soldiers in the axis to respond swiftly.

He said the troops later arrived in two operational vehicles to reinforce local security efforts.

He said, “Before the soldiers came, they had already taken away nine people. One person was killed, and a woman sustained gunshot injuries.”

Residents added that several others sustained injuries while attempting to flee, with many families running into nearby bushes and neighbouring communities to escape further violence.

Efforts to get a reaction from the Kwara State Police Command were unsuccessful as the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, did not respond to calls.

However, the National President of the Igbomina Professionals Association, Barrister Bode Iranloye, confirmed the incident during a telephone chat with Daily Trust.

He said, “This is the same village where a woman who went to buy charcoal was earlier kidnapped. This latest incident was clearly a coordinated attack.”

Iranloye disclosed that three of the abducted persons were members of the traditional ruler’s family, noting that most of the victims were visitors who had returned home for the Christmas celebration.

He further said, “They operated in complete darkness because there was no electricity in the community. As of now, there has been no contact or ransom demand from the abductors.”
