Bandits have killed some residents of Gebbe, a community in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

Sources said the attackers, numbering over 50, invaded the community Sunday night and began shooting sporadically at anyone in sight, throwing residents into panic.

A resident, Usman Magaji, said many people fled into the bush to escape the attack.

“I had to escape through the back of my compound with my wives and seven children. The bandits were shooting at everything in sight. They killed people, but we do not know the exact number because everyone was running for safety,” he said.

Another source also confirmed that several residents were killed, noting that the exact casualty figure could not be determined as people fled the community in different directions during the attack.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said security operatives had been deployed to the area.

“The police are on top of the situation. Our officers are currently on the ground to protect lives and property,” he said.

He added that assessments were ongoing to determine the extent of the attack, including the number of fatalities and injured persons.

“An official statement will be issued in due course,” he said.
