Bandits attack Keta village to avenge killing of Kachalla Yellow

Bandits on Sunday attacked Keta village in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State to avenge the killing of a notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Yellow (aka Dan Isuhu), by security operatives in a failed ambush attempt two weeks ago.

Locals said the attackers killed one person, set 11 vehicles ablaze, and looted shops during the raid.

The assault is believed to have been carried out by foot soldiers of Adamu Aliero, Yellow’s elder brother and a known warlord.

Kachalla Yellow, who was linked to several deadly attacks in Zamfara and along the Funtua-Gusau road, reportedly died during a gun duel with operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (Askarawa) and the police at Keta ward.

Conflicting reports surround his death, with some suggesting he was killed by a rival faction loyal to Dogo Gide, while others said he was neutralised by the military.

A resident of Danjibga, a nearby community, confirmed Yellow died while attempting to ambush security operatives heading to Keta after locals requested reinforcements.

“He and his gang planned to ambush the guards but were met by a well-armed security team. A fierce gun battle followed, during which Yellow and several gang members were killed,” he said.

He added that fleeing bandits later attacked Danjibga, killing eight people, including his brother, and stealing money from traders at the weekly market.

Despite the attack, the community celebrated Yellow’s death, describing him as a ruthless criminal responsible for countless abductions and killings in Tsafe, Gusau, Dansadau, and Funtua.

Zamfara State Police Command, through its spokesman DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed that Yellow was killed during a joint security operation to repel an attack on Keta town.
