Armed bandits on Christmas eve opened fire on a police patrol team injuring the Divisional Police Officer of Makera Division in Funtua LGA, Katsina.

Daily Trust gathered that the bandits, who were on motorcycle, opened fire at the approaching patrol vehicle and the DPO, Chief Superintendent Jibrin Mohammed and another officer, who were in the vehicle were shot, the latter on the arm. 

The attack, which happened at Unguwar Dahiru, about a kilometre from the police divisional headquarters, led to pandemonium as people ran for safety.

A police source said the injured DPO has since been moved to Katsina for medical treatment.

The DPO was at one time in Kankara LGA which was notorious for bandits’ attacks before his new posting to Makera division.

When contacted, the command’s spokesman, DSP Gambo Isah, said he was not aware of the attack but promised to make enquiries and get back to this reporter which he didn’t up to press time.
