Soldiers have reportedly gunned down a suspected bandits’ informant at Kofoto village in Kagarko Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State.

A security source, who preferred anonymity, confirmed the killing of the informant during a telephone chat with our reporter on Saturday.

He said the suspect had been on the run after he was declared wanted following an attack on two settlements in Impi and Mai -Iddo communities.

During the attack, he said the bandits killed two herders and rustled their cows.

He said the soldiers, upon receiving intelligence information, mobilised to Kofoto village last Thursday, saying the suspect was shot dead while trying to escape after sighting the troops.

“Upon sighting the soldiers in their Hilux, the suspect tried to escape and was shot in the process,” he said.

He also disclosed that 124 rustled cows were recovered by the troops at Azaara forest which borders Kachia and Kagarko LGA.

According to the source, the troops engaged the bandits while escaping with the rustled cows, saying the bandits later abandoned the cows and fled after a fierce gun battle.

A community leader in the area also confirmed the killing of the suspected informant.

He said the suspect was responsible for giving information to bandits on the recent attack on the Fulani settlement in the area.

The police in the area confirmed the incident but referred our reporter to the command’s headquarters in Kaduna.

The spokesman for the command, ASP Hassan Mansur, could not be reached for comments as at the time of filing the report.
