Bandits have shot dead one person among 12 people they abducted in Gidan–Makeri, near Kadara village, in Kagarko LGA of Kaduna State after collecting N3.5 million.

The leader of the kidnappers reportedly shot the victim in the presence of his relative who brought N3.5m ransom to them instead of N50 million they demanded.

City & Crime had reported that bandits, wielding weapons, on December 11, 2022, invaded the community and abducted 12 villagers.

A family member of one of those abducted, identified as Yunusa, said the deceased, whose name he gave as Eriniya, was shot dead by the bandits on Thursday, after N3. 5 million ransom was taken to them at their den.

He said the bandits’ leader, after collecting the ransom, suddenly opened fire and killed one of the captives on the spot, adding that he was angry that the family of those abducted failed to raise N50 million ransom they demanded.

“In fact, it was the elder brother of the deceased that took the N3.5 million to them at a bush but after their leader collected the money, he brought out one of the captives, Eriniya, and shot him on the head and he died on the spot,” he said.

He said the bandits’ leader ordered him to convey the corpse on the motorcycle back home, saying that he was serious about the N50 million ransom he demanded for the 12 people abducted.

“So, the corpse was taken back home last week and buried while the 11 other victims are still in captivity as I am talking to you now,” he added.

Speaking via phone on Sunday, the village chief of Janjala, Aliyu Abdullahi, confirmed the killing of one of the 12 people abducted from Gidan Makeri after collecting N3.5 million from the families of the victims.

“But the information I got was that the bandits’ leader shot and killed one of the victims because he was able to identified some of the bandits,” he said.

There was no official response from the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command over the incident at the time of filing this report.
