Bandits have killed three people in an attack on Kadisau village, Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Monday evening.

The attackers also left many residents wounded, with victims rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Locals said an unspecified number of women and children were abducted, with sources claiming that about four of the abductees were engaged and scheduled to be married before the end of 2025. Kadisau has endured repeated bandit assaults in recent times. This latest attack is the second within ten days, while the deadliest incident occurred in 2019 when more than 70 people were killed.

Residents expressed anger over the sudden withdrawal of security forces that had been stationed in the area, saying it left them vulnerable.

They appealed to the government to urgently redeploy troops to prevent further attacks and restore peace.

Eyewitnesses revealed that many villagers, particularly women and children, were seen fleeing the community from around 4:00 p.m. on Monday following the raid.

When contacted, the spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Sadik Aliyu, confirmed that investigations were ongoing.

He assured that security agencies were intensifying efforts to track down the perpetrators, warning that the “hoodlums terrorizing peace-loving citizens across Katsina State are counting their days.”

Bandits block highway, rob passengers

Meanwhile, bandits on Tuesday blocked the Mairuwa-Yankara road along the Funtua-Gusau highway, shooting indiscriminately and robbing travellers.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers intercepted about eight vehicles, dispossessing passengers of valuables during the operation.

The bandits reportedly attempted to abduct some passengers but were repelled following the swift intervention of security operatives from Funtua and Faskari local government areas. Although no life was lost, a resident of Mairuwa town confirmed that three passengers sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital. They were later discharged after receiving treatment and continued their journey.
